Stupid driving drives me nutty.
Okay. I'm not a perfect driver, but I do try to be somewhat courteous and let other drivers in when they are changing lanes, etc. Has anyone noticed that there are just huge numbers of imbiciles and/or jerks on the road lately? I think they're breeding. Or maybe I'm just spending a lot of time in the car. Really, though, I'm tired of people cutting me off, not using their turn signals, tailgating, increasing speed when trying to pass (my favorite - virtually guaranteeed to make me spew forth every four-letter word I know), and generally just behaving like total jackasses on the roads.
For instance, the other night I was on my way home from Ann Arbor on US-23/M-14 and was cruising along in the center lane of this 3 lane freeway. I came up behind a pickup truck and van in the center lane who were both going slow (like 50 mph or so) so I hopped over to the left lane to pass. (Don't worry, I used my signal!) When I tried to pass the van (which was in front of the pickup) the guy SPED UP. I don't mean by 2 miles an hour. This winner actually sped up to match my speed SO THAT I WOULDN'T PASS HIM. (By the way: Here's my personal message to anyone who does this - are you really that FREAKING INSECURE that you can't get passed by a girl in Jeep? Are you worried that my passing you in the left lane affects your manhood? Don't worry - it doesn't affect it as much as driving that sexy old rusty conversion van. Next time, just move the hell over and get out of my way.) But no, he had to RACE ME. In a van. I rolled my eyes, and did the polite thing (admittedly, mistake #1) and decelerated to move over behind both him and the pickup truck as we were about to approach the m-14/us 23 split and I needed to be in the right lane. I turned my signal on again, and this dork in the van decided to get cute and decelerate too! So I couldn't move over. So I slow down some more and he continues to pace me, and the pickup behind him won't back off either. At this point, I HAD to move over or miss my turn - and I'd had my signal on for a mile and a half. So I just gritted my teeth and started to move over. (I had nowhere else to go!) The pickup finally got the hint, slowed down and moved over to the outside lane to let me in. Then he does the REALLY MATURE thing and speeds up to 90+ mph, flips me the bird, and speeds off in the right hand lane.
(To the pickup driver - Whatever, you idiotic redneck piece of crap. I'm not the jackass who was playing around with driving on the freeway. If you want to flip someone off, look in the mirror or maybe to the guy in the van. At least I signaled my intent for a good two minutes before going through with it. And by the way, you really out to shave that scraggly-ass mustache. It looks like you have 3 or maybe 4 hairs to clip there.)
I could go on and on about bad driving that I see all the time. Time to put the soapbox away for a while and find something new to rant about :)

I TOTALLY know what you mean. It's funny you should talk about this because I've been thinking about this all week! Now, I'm not a perfect driver either, in fact, I've got way too many tickets. But I'm not a mean driver either. And because of my tickets, I've been trying to be VERY careful about being a good and lawful driver, which leads me to be even more courteous.
I made a vow to myself that I wouldn't speed more than 5 miles over, so I always set my cruise control. But it seems like ONLY in the last 2-3 days, people on M-14 are driving like speed maniacs! I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it before (not likely) or if it just changed recently. Suddenly, EVERYONE is tailing me, getting all impatient, cutting me off, etc. It's not like I'm crawling like some 85-year-old grandma at 55 in a 70 zone. Even at 75 in a 70 zone, it seems to be a happy medium. Until now.
I wish these jerks would just SETTLE THE $@#! down!!
